Hiroko Tanaka is a Japanese freelance photographer based in between Guatemala, Mexico and Japan. Her primary focus is on social issues, human rights and human condition in unprivileged circumstances. Her work include acid violence survivors in Cambodia, children with effects of Agent Orange in Vietnam. Her images on Vietnamese children of Agent Orange were featured on CNN photo blog, which ranked 7th popular in 2013.
In 2012, Hiroko moved to Guatemala and photographed a plight of Mayan indigenous communities that live under devastated condition with severe poverty and inequality.
Prior to relocating in Guatemala, she spent 7 years in Philadelphia in the US, where she received BA in photojournalism from Temple university and worked as photographer for newspapers.
